What a beautiful day for a St. Patrick's Day celebration! It was 77 degrees in Boulder today for the 'World's Shortest St. Patrick's Day Parade'! We had so much fun watching the parade with hot cocoa, having our faces painted, getting 'sword' balloons, having a picnic lunch, playing with hula hoops, getting ice cream, and playing on the giant rocks on Pearl Street. What a fun day!
We got to the parade early, so there was a little time to wait...
...and wait
...and wait.
It was actually only about 30 minutes, but to Harrison and Declan it seemed to feel like 12 hours!
Finally, the parade kicked off with bagpipe players and some Irish music!
There were also tiny little floats and Irish dancers...
...and, quite unexpectedly, there was a 'Paddy O' Furniture Drill Team'. Very interesting. They yelled chants and used patio chairs to make 'music'.
Declan got beads, candy, and a squishy ball at the parade, so he was pretty happy.
The face painting was quite elaborate! Declan had his face painted with a rainbow, a pot of gold, and a shamrock.
Harrison wouldn't agree to get his face painted, even after I offered to do it with him.
But, he didn't hesitate to get his picture taken with the Irish wolf at the parade!
Harrison and Declan loved the hula hoops. Despite the fact that they couldn't do traditional hula hoop moves, they found ways to have lots of fun by rolling the hoops around.
Happy St. Patrick's Day!
