Time for Summer - 5/31/14

It's time to start enjoying summer! T-ball is over, school is over, and the fountains are on at all parks!! Everyone was hot after Harrison's last T-ball game today, so we stopped by Community Park in Louisville to play and run in fountains. And, since we were only a few blocks away, we had to make a trip to 'Sweet Cow' for some ice cream!

End of the Season - 5/31/4

Today was Harrison's last T-ball game and the end of the season. He was sad and wanted to keep playing, but he did get a little trophy, team photo, and trading cards to help him remember all the fun! And, he got a hit from a real pitch without using the tee!

Fresh Strawberry Cake -5/30/14

Lately, Declan has been asking everyday for a strawberry cake for his birthday. So, I found a fresh strawberry cake recipe with no Jell-o mix or food coloring and gave it a trial run. And, since it was the last day of school, it made a nice celebration treat for that, as well! I thought it was delicious. Declan liked everything EXCEPT the fresh strawberry puree between the layers. He was not pleased with that addition, but he liked the rest. Chocolate might be the best bet for a birthday cake.

Cookie Play Date - 5/28/14

One of Harrison and Declan's preschool friends, Lydia, came over for a play date after school today and we made sprinkle cookies (sugar cookies with sprinkles mixed in the dough). They were a great baking team and the cookies are delicious. I guess that explains why they each ate three! After we finished baking, they played 'superhero' and hide-and-seek for the whole afternoon.

Somebody knows how to make some funny faces!

Kids, cookies, and sprinkles are always a winning combination!

Boulder Creek Festival - 5/24/14

Who are these two little men I saw at the Boulder Creek Festival?! Amazingly, I convinced Harrison and Declan to take a silly picture at a photo booth at the festival today. They also kayaked, met an alien, talked to a giant stalk of broccoli, bounced in some jumpy houses, rolled around in giant bubbles, and rode the train. Tomorrow is definitely a day of rest!

"The aliens around here seem very friendly."

"No matter how hard I push, I can't seem to get out of this bubble!"

Kayaking on the mighty 'river' (or maybe it was just a giant tub of water).

Wait, those little men I saw earlier turned back into little boys!

Gold Hill - 5/16/14

Preschool was not in session today, so we used our morning to visit a virtual ghost town. Gold Hill (est. 1859) is about 11 miles from Boulder and is straight up Sunshine Canyon. There isn't much there, but what is left is really interesting! There were old antiques all over the place, including a dilapidated, old firetruck. Harrison and Declan loved exploring the town and finding little treasures. There was even an old General Store, where we stopped for a snack.
