These are photos from my recent, impromptu trip to Scotland. I had a fabulous time and loved the beauty, history, and people of the country. Above are the ruins of St. Andrews Castle.
These first photos were all taken in Edinburgh, along or near the Royal Mile. I had some absolutely delicious food in Scotland and those photos are speckled throughout also.
Irn-Bru, the most popular soft drink in Scotland. It even outsells Coke!
There were wool shops everywhere!
St. Giles Cathedral.
Edinburgh Castle.
This little owl was on the Royal Mile trying to raise money for animal conservation.
This marker is in a parking lot next to St. Giles Cathedral and actually marks the grave of John Knox, the Reformer of Scotland. It's an actual parking space!
This herbal cola was a wonderful find! I think I had some every day.
Firth of Fourth Rail Bridge and surrounding area.
Village of Elie.
Village of Anstruther.
St. Andrews, near the University.
Ruins of St. Andrews Castle.
Ruins of St. Andrews Cathedral.
Carrot, sweet potato and onion soup.
St. Andrews Old Course.
This little restaurant, The Arcade Whisky and Haggis House, was a great find! I didn't try any whisky or haggis, but the fish cakes were amazing! The cakes were made of both haddock and salmon and were topped off with a yummy sauce. And, of course, I had to try the lemon coconut cheesecake!
Village of Luss on the shores of Loch Lomond.
Drover's Inn.
This building is over 300 years old and still functions as a tavern and inn. The photo on the right is the view behind the inn.

St. Conan's Kirk, along the way to Oban.
Norie's Fish and Chips from Oban...best eaten next to the sea.
Oban is a gorgeous Victorian seaside village with the freshest seafood you've ever tasted!
McCraig's Tower in Oban.
The construction of this tower was started simply to give jobs to the people, but the work was eventually abandoned and the tower was never finished.

A little lamb near Inverary Castle.

The village of Inverary.
I found these macaroons on my last night...delicious!
